The Empowerment for Employment
Ephesians 5:18-6:9

I. The commanded principle of empowerment. (v.18)
A. The negative command: Don’t be drunk with wine.
B. The positive command: Do be filled with the spirit.

II. The conscious decision of empowerment. (v.18)
A. The fullness of the Spirit is not something to be attained, but obtained.

III. The continual process of empowerment. (v.18)
A. Our Heavenly Father demands it. Gal. 5:16
B. Our hellish foe demands it. 1 John 4:4
C. Our human flesh demands it. Gal. 5:16, Rom. 8:2-5

IV. The consequential effects of empowerment. (vv.5:19-6:9)
A. The devotional effects. (vv. 5:19-21)

  •  Joyful singing. (v. 19)
  • Thankful speaking. (v. 20)
  • Willful submission. (v. 21)B. The relational effects. (vv. 5:22-6:4)
  •  As partners. (vv. 5:22-23)
    – Wives are to be submissive in loyalty. (vv.5:22-24)
    – Husbands are to be sacrificial in love. (vv.5:25-32)
    – Both are to be sensitive in lifestyle. (v.5:33)
  •  As parents (vv. 6:1-4)
    – Children are to obey and honor parents. (vv.6:1-3)
    – Parents are to train and instruct children. (v. 6:4)
    C. The vocational effects. (vv. 6:5-9)
  • Employees are to be conscientious in view of Christ. (vv. 6:5-8)
  • Employers are to be cautious in view of Christ. (v. 6:9)

This week’s memory verse: Ephesians 5:18 “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.”
